Saint Valentine
February 14
According to tradition, when St. Valentine was imprisoned, a judge challenged him to heal his blind daughter. When the saint restored the girl’s eyesight, it was the judge’s eyes that were opened to Truth. The judge freed all Christian inmates under his authority, and he and 44 members of his household were baptized.
Also, St. Valentine was known for strengthening Christian families and encouraging holy marriages. Later accounts—reflecting pious legend rather than verifiable biography—claim he secretly assisted Christian couples seeking a sacramental marriage at a time when Roman law discouraged such unions, believing married soldiers were less effective. Later medieval customs linked St. Valentine’s feast to romantic affection, but the Church’s earliest memory of him was deeply rooted in love for Christ. He was a priest who chose fidelity to Christ over his own life.

Evening with the Blessed Virgin Mary
On February 21, Saturday, 6:30 pm, let's gather at the Grotto for a special night of devotion through prayer, music and meditation. This is in observance of the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes which was celebrated by the Catholic community on February 11.

Excell Network Breakfast is Back!
Breakfast with us in 2026. The first Excell Network Breakfast at Saint Mark Parish Center happens on February 21, Saturday at 8:00-9:00 am.
Whether you've been here before or this is your first time, you'll be touched by our beloved series of inspirational talks featuring students who are on the SF Archdiocese Restorative Justice Ministry's reentry scholarship program.
COR Update
We’re still discussing spiritual warfare. We looked at sacramentals and the sacraments. Powerful weapons we can use in the battle against the devil and evil. Our video from EWTN moves next to Devils and Angels. These spiritual beings affect us every day both for bad and good. What should we know about them and how do we use that knowledge to ensure our salvation?
We meet most Mondays in the parish center at 7:00 pm. Why not give Cor a try? The men here are just like you and have found prayer, fraternity, and spiritual formation within this group of men.

OBITUARY
Theresa Phung died peacefully in her sleep at home on February 5, 2026, at the age of 98. Born in Hanoi, Vietnam, she was the fourth of 14 children. Theresa was deeply loved and will be missed by her daughters: Kim (Scott), Helen (Chuck), and Pauline (Tim); grandchildren: Rory (Kelly), Blaise (Ben), Stephanie, Avery (Megan), and Ciera (Christian); and great-grandchildren: Owen, Ruby, Ian, Bodie, and Quinn.
When she was only 17 years old, her father was killed when his car was bombed, leaving her mother as a single parent with their 14th child on the way. To help support her family, Theresa became an elementary school teacher.
Seeking to continue her education, she applied for and was awarded a scholarship at Edgewood College of the Sacred Heart in Madison, Wisconsin. At the age of 24, she left her family and moved to the United States where she met Peter, her future husband, who attended the nearby college of St Norbert.
When he was accepted for graduate studies at Notre Dame University, Theresa transferred to its sister school, St Mary’s College, where she completed her bachelor’s degree in Sociology.
In South Bend, Indiana, she and Peter started their family with the birth of the first of their three daughters. Upon graduation, they moved to sunny California, where their second and third daughters were born. Once all three children were in school, Theresa became a library assistant at the main branch of the San Mateo Public Library, where she worked for 34 years, retiring at the age of 75. She and Peter were among the founding parishioners of Saint Mark Catholic Church, where she remained active into her 90s.
**Funeral details will be announced when finalized. Friends who are able to attend are encouraged to remember Theresa’s joyful spirit by dressing in bright colors, especially her favorite – pink! In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her memory to the Society of St Vincent de Paul St Mark Parish Conference.**

The Chinese Ministry warmly invites you to celebrate the Lunar New Year! The Most Reverend Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone will preside at the liturgy. All priests and deacons of the Archdiocese are invited to participate in this joyful celebration. Any priest or deacon who would like to concelebrate the Mass is kindly asked to directly contact Fr. Zhai.
Following the Mass, a Lunar New Year Banquet will be held in the Patrons’ Hall, beginning at 5:00p. Tables and individual tickets are available for sponsorship and purchase. Tickets are $80 per person, and parishes are especially invited to sponsor tables in support of the Chinese Ministry. If you, your parish, or your parishioners are interested in attending or sponsoring a table, please contact Fr. Peter Zhai.
