Saint Anselm, Bishop and Doctor of the Church
April 21Considered an original and independent thinker, Anselm was admired for his patience, gentleness, and teaching skill. His care and concern extended to the very poorest people. Opposing the slave trade, Anselm obtained from the national council at Westminster the passage of a resolution prohibiting the sale of human beings.
Like every true follower of Christ, Saint Anselm had to carry his cross, especially in the form of opposition and conflict with those in political control. Though personally a mild and gentle man and a lover of peace, he would not back off from conflict and persecution when principles were at stake.

April 25We will start the 9-day Saint Mark novena on April 17, Friday.
On April 25, Saint Mark Feast Day, the Saturday 4:30 pm mass will be followed by a potluck party. Sign up sheets are in the back of the church to indicate if you are able to bring something to share.

Parish Center Update

COR Update
On April 13, men of Saint Mark met for Cor. We talked about marriage as it shows in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. There are 15 pages of guidance in the Catechism and we all learned something new. Father Angel joined us last Monday. Why are some babies born deformed? Why do young people die? Does God really allow these things to happen? We all wonder about things like this.
Monday, the 20th, we will check out some resources that might help us to understand and all of us will talk about these things in our lives. Join us at 7:00 pm in the parish hall.

A brief history: Father Michael J. McGivney was born on August 12, 1852, to Irish immigrant parents in Waterbury, Connecticut. He was the eldest of 13 children, six of whom died in infancy or childhood. From his own experience, Father McGivney recognized the devastating effect on immigrant families of a father and wage earner's untimely death. On March 29, 1882, Father McGivney, with the help of a small group of parishioners from Saint Mary's Church in New Haven, Connecticut, founded the Knights of Columbus to provide financial assistance to widows and orphans in the event of a member's death.

Today at Saint Mark Church, the Knights continue the tradition of raising funds for the less fortunate. Proceeds from our events support programs such as "Coats for Kids," "Saint Joseph's Table," and the "Global Wheelchair Mission", to name just a few.
We also provide help in many other ways, such as cutting, hauling, and decorating the church with the beautiful palms you saw on Palm Sunday.
The Knights of Columbus is a fraternal organization, and we are always looking for a few more good men to join and help our church and community grow in faith through works. God Bless.
